Do containers reset in Fallout: New Vegas?

I just recently got Fallout: New Vegas, and I was wondering if containers reset, or if they are safe for storage. I've never played a Fallout game, however, I am very familiar with the Elder Scrolls games and I wanted to know if the reset systems were similar or not. I'm basically looking for a place to store all my junk. Thanks.
